Job Title: Church Musician

Reports To: Director of Worship

 

Purpose of the Position

Create an atmosphere of celebration and worship through music for all worship services. Foster an innovative, blended style of music to enhance and support the worship experience. It is estimated that this position will require a commitment of 8 hours per week.

 

Job Description

  • Provide organ and piano music in a professional manner for all worship services, seasonal and special services.

  • Be familiar with and acquainted with a wide range of music, i.e. praise & worship, contemporary, traditional gospel.

  • In cooperation with the Director of Worship, coordinate the music – praise team and adult choir.

  • Demonstrate organizational and communication skills by effectively collaborating with the Director of worship, church staff, administrators, and members of the Praise Team.

  • Participate in planning with the Director of Worship and any appropriate team members to plan worship services and special programs.

  • Arrange for qualified substitute organist/pianist/keyboardist when absent for church services and notify the Director of Worship in advance.

  • Assist the Director of Worship in the recruiting and training of praise team singers for worship services.

  • Lead and train others to lead the musical worship for the worship service

  • Communicate with the Bishop, Lead Pastor, Executive Elder and Executive Pastor on a regular basis to discuss worship themes and maintain a trust-based working relationship

  • Oversees & works with the leadership & lay persons in music ministry on a regular basis to ensure smooth worship flow.

  • Works with the Bishop, Lead Pastor, Executive Elder, Executive Pastor to discuss vision, needs, service opportunities and worship focuses for each campus.

  • Cooperate with the Bishop, Pastor Hayles, Assistant Pastor and Director of Worship, to enrich the worship ministry of church and promote cooperative relationships among those in ministry

  • Lead congregational singing with the worship team, choir or alone utilizing a mix of new, current, & traditional songs staying current on trends in worship music

  • Remains focused on all goals and COP Vision initiatives

  • Opens and lead worships, reading & exhorting scripture and praying as needed

  • Lead efficient, well-organized, and fun weekly rehearsals

  • Consistently introduces new music, arrangements, teaching parts, and setting goals.

  • Strengthen the individuals on the team by encouraging leadership

  • Work as a team with the Sound/Audio technicians (audio, video)

  • Responsible for a quality sound mix by ensuring set up & sound checks are done efficiently.

  • Provides Organizational Leadership, Team leadership and Event Leadership as needed.

  • Promote growth through mentoring and empowering others with responsibilities to ensure duplication of his/herself

  • Provides direction to those he/she is leading

  • Select music and direct the Praise/Worship team in the absence of the Director of Worship.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to teach music with four part harmony.

  • Be committed to ministry at The City of Promise.

  • Has the ability to relate well and work with youth, adults, and the elderly.

  • Must be a self-disciplined, self-motivated, hard-working individual who is willing to put in the time and give the effort to accomplish ministry with excellence.

  • Possess experience, training, and expertise in the field of music and worship.

 

Accountability

  • The Church Musician shall work under the supervision of the Director of Worship in cooperation with the Praise Team, with ultimate accountability to the Bishop and Pastor Andrea Hayles.

  • The Musician shall meet/communicate regularly with the Director of Worship for planning and prayer.

  • The Church Musician will meet with the Director of Worship, Pastor Hayles and/or other pastoral designee for a performance review after 90 days

  • The Church Musician is expected to be at the City of Promise at an hour prior to worship at scheduled times on all scheduled worship days and is expected to remain in communication with the Director of Worship and Pastor Hayles, regarding time off and being away on scheduled worship days.

  • The Church Musician is expected to adhere to all policies, procedures and expectations set forth in this document and established by the leadership of The City of Promise.
